Today I am trying to connect again, but the forscan software will not detect the device.
While using it the first time, the forscan software prompted me that a firmware update was available for the vlinker. I accepted the notification and allowed it to update the device. It continued to function normally at that time. While the firmware was updated, the device WAS CONNECTED TO THE OBDII PORT. As I stated above the update completed ok and was able to continue using the device.
I read elsewhere on this forum that the device should NOT be connected to the vehicle during firmware update. I did not know this at the time..... is it possible that the device was bricked / damaged by that update process while connected to the vehicle?
When connected to my laptop, it shows as functional on com port 9. When I try and establish connection with forscan, the blue led on the device flashes yellow briefly indicating data traffic, but then stays solid blue/yellow after forscan fails to connect.
I have tried to redo the firmware update using the files and update utility downloaded from the support/downloads on the vgate website. The firmware update does not proceed. The console log states that the port was opened successfully, but then the process fails.
Is there ANYTHING I can do to reset and re-update the firmware on the device, or is it completely useless now?
Please advise. By the way, I have owned it for longer than 1 year, but have not used it much so I am pretty sure it is out of warranty.....
